Built in 1925, the State Theater is an elegant, three-story vaudeville palace and movie theater,
which features a sophisticated Beaux Arts-inspired design with a host of fine details.
The colorful main facade is faced with light-brown pressed brick with contrasting white
terra cotta trim. The State Theater closed in the late 1980's - it was the largest theater commpany
in Sioux Falls. The State Theater is a prime example of 1920's theaters built for vaudeville and movies.
Koch Hazard Architects is restoring the facade of the building, and will then commission a structural and
feasibility study to determine the reuse of the facility.
