Hazard and O’Farrell Promoted to Associate

Press Release | Sioux Falls, South Dakota | April 10, 2026

Koch Hazard Architects is pleased to announce the promotions of Nolan Hazard, AIA, and Mason O’Farrell, AIA, to Associate. These promotions recognize their contributions to the firm, their commitment to thoughtful design, and the leadership they bring to projects, clients, and colleagues.

Since joining Koch Hazard more than six years ago, Hazard has played a key role in the design and delivery of projects across the region. A licensed architect in South Dakota, Minnesota, and California, he has contributed to a range of civic, educational, mixed-use, and renovation work, including the City Light, Power and Traffic building, Startup Sioux Falls Renovation, and the Lincoln Hall renovation at South Dakota State University. He also serves as Chair of the Sioux Falls Board of Historic Preservation, reflecting his ongoing investment in the built environment of the community.

“Nolan has been an essential part of the firm since joining Koch Hazard,” said Keith Thompson, Principal Architect. “He brings a thoughtful approach to design and a strong ability to balance form and function in ways that consistently serve our clients well. His work is already leaving a meaningful mark on the community, and we’re excited to see that impact continue to grow.”

O’Farrell has been with the firm for five years and contributes to a wide range of educational, civic, and community-focused projects. His experience includes work with the Sioux Falls School District, Augustana University, Children’s Home Society, Minnehaha County, as well as many projects for regional school districts. His work reflects a careful and considered approach to design, with attention to both the broader vision and the details that shape how spaces are experienced. He holds a Master of Architecture and Design Build Certificate from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from South Dakota State University.

“Mason is deeply committed to the design work that sits at the core of our practice.” said Stacey McMahan, Principal Architect. “He is a steady and positive presence in the office, leads by example, and continually raises the bar for those around him. We have high expectations for what lies ahead in his career.”

The title of Associate reflects Koch Hazard’s confidence in Hazard and O’Farrell as emerging leaders within the firm and recognizes the value they bring through design excellence, collaboration, and a long-term commitment to the communities they serve.
