Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation

Client: Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation | Location: Sioux Falls, SD

Date of Completion: 2012 & 2025 | Area: 4,700 s.f. (renovation), 1,520 s.f. (addition)

The original renovation of this historic 1888 depot transformed the building into the headquarters of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation while preserving and celebrating its historic character. During phase one of the renovation, original windows were carefully restored, and interior wood details were retained and repaired wherever possible. Exterior improvements returned the building to its original appearance, including slate shingles, copper gutters and downspouts, and extensive masonry tuck-pointing.

A second, recently completed renovation provided a full interior update along with two thoughtful additions for a conference room and additional office space. The design carefully balances historic preservation with modern comfort and functionality, allowing the building to continue serving the organization while honoring its architectural heritage.
