This extensive restoration of the State Capitol complex was implemented in multiple phases as funds were appropriated over a fourteen–year period. The restoration included interior marble replacement, scagliola restoration, murals, stencils, light fixtures, floors, carpeting, woodwork, furnishings and exterior stone work. Painstaking research was required to uncover original colors and designs for all components of the Capitol Building. Koch Hazard Architect’s restoration of the South Dakota State Capitol is a 1992 AIA South Dakota Design Honor Award winner.
Koch Hazard is currently working in the Capitol on the Governor’s Conference Room and the Capitol Law Library.
