Brandon Valley Ice Rink

Client: Brandon Valley Ice Hockey Association | Location: Brandon, South Dakota

Date of Completion: Est. 2024 | Area: Phase I (30,240 s.f.) Phase II (7,900 s.f.)

Design Summary

The Brandon Valley Hockey Association (BVHA) approached Koch Hazard Architects for fresh look at their facility plan in 2021, with an eye toward getting the best facility on a bare-bones budget. The Phase I design will include one sheet of ice, support spaces and restrooms. The building is designed to support an expansion of locker rooms, concessions, lobby space, spectator mezzanine and second sheet of ice (indoor or outdoor).

The state-of-the-art sheet of ice utilizes environmentally friendly coolants to avoid eminent phase-out of other chemicals.

Koch Hazard Architects provided complete architectural and interior design services for this building. The project is currently under construction.

Project Highlight

The design and construction team’s diligence and perseverance through volatile market conditions and fundraising challenges paid off in a final construction cost of $5.5 million- a remarkable feat when similar sized facilities are averaging over $10 million in recent years.
