The L&A Bakery was established by Henry Levinger, Eugene Levinger and V.I. Werle at its present location in 1916. When purchased by its current owners, the roof had been leaking badly for several years and the building was full of junk and not far from collapse. The program was to restore the building’s historic grace while inserting, as unobtrusively as possible, new HVAC, lighting, power and technology. After individually listing the building on the National Registry of Historic Places, rehab was performed to the state’s historic rehab standards. This project was a 2015 AIA South Dakota Design Award Merit winner.
