This restoration and adaptive reuse has connected two formerly separate buildings to create eight spacious one-bedroom apartments on the second level while restoring storefronts, windows, pressed metal ceilings and wood floors for retail shops on the street level. The brick has been cleaned, wood and pressed metal details repainted and awnings added. Koch Hazard Architect’s restoration of the Southwestern Block is a 1995 Mayor’s Award for Historic Preservation winner and a 1995 AIA South Dakota Design Merit award winner.
